The Pecking Order
Blackie
Blackie is the heart and soul of our flock and our very first resident chicken. She came to us from a neighboring farm when her owners were relocating and couldn’t take her along. Fearless is an understatement when it comes to Blackie. She roams the farm with a confidence that even the hawks respect—so much so, that they won’t dare go near her! Her sleek black feathers and bold demeanor could easily have her mistaken for a crow, but she's all chicken, and she’s not afraid of anything that comes her way. Blackie loves to free-range all day, enjoying the company of all the other animals on the farm. She’s especially fond of her morning routine, which includes zipping over to Crabbe and Goyle's pig pen to scavenge for any food they may have dropped. Occasionally, you might catch her hopping on Crabbe’s back for a little piggy ride! During football season, Blackie shows off her Gamecock pride by cheering on her favorite team, the South Carolina Gamecocks! You’ll often find her strutting around the yard, full of team spirit, and daydreaming about her celebrity crush, Sir Big Spur, the most involved mascot in sports.
Tater
Tater is the newest addition to our flock and is already making quite the impression! This little bundle of energy is Blackie's new sidekick, and together they make quite the duo. Tater may be small, but don’t let her size fool you—she's quick on her tiny talons and always on the move, darting around the yard with impressive speed. When she’s not zipping around, you’ll often find Tater hanging out in her cozy coop at her very own "chicknic table," where she enjoys a peaceful snack in the sun. She’s also our resident sassy broody hen—equal parts moody and majestic. One minute she’s sunbathing like a queen, the next she’s giving side-eye to anyone who dares come near her nesting spot. With her sweet, spunky personality (and just the right amount of attitude), Tater has quickly become a beloved member of the flock, and we’re excited to see her settle in and form even more friendships.
