The Breakfast Club

Meet our resident cow herd, lovingly known as The Breakfast Club—Oatmeal, Poptart, Bagel, Pancake, and our newest addition, Butter. This shaggy crew of Highland cows (plus one honorary member) spends their days lounging in the sun, mooing across pastures, and striking poses with their iconic bangs. Butter’s still settling in, but he’s already winning hearts—and soon he’ll be joining the full herd for morning graze and gossip.

Oatmeal

Meet Oatmeal, our majestic, oatmeal-blonde Highland cow with a personality as grand as his horns! As the proud leader of the herd, he keeps a watchful eye on his cow companions, making sure everyone stays in line (and that he gets first dibs on treats). Speaking of treats—nothing gets Oatmeal moving like the rustle of an alfalfa bag! He may be big and mighty, but he’s also a softie at heart, always leaning in for a good scratch behind the ears. Whether he’s basking in the sun or strutting through the pasture, Oatmeal is truly the king of the sanctuary. Stop by and say hello—he might just let you give him a scratch!

Poptart

Poptart is the sanctuary’s resident heartthrob—his long, gorgeous bangs give him the perfect “emo cow” look, and he knows how to work it. As second-in-command behind Oatmeal, he’s got the respect of the herd, but he’s not one to follow the crowd. Poptart loves his alone time, often wandering off to explore the pasture on his own. Independent and effortlessly cool, he does things his way, whether that means striking a dramatic pose in the sunset or taking the scenic route to snack time. He may play it mysterious, but deep down, he’s got a soft side—especially if you offer him a treat and a good scratch.

Bagel

Bagel may have started as one of the babies of the herd, but those days are long gone—he’s all grown up and ready to take on the world (or at least challenge Oatmeal for the top spot). Confident and scrappy, he never backs down from a playful showdown over the best bite of hay. With his signature bowl-cut bangs, Bagel proudly channels his hair icon, Lloyd Christmas from Dumb and Dumber, adding a little extra goofiness to the pasture. Whether he’s tossing his head dramatically or causing harmless mischief, Bagel is a lovable mix of determination and pure silliness. Stop by and say hello—he might just show off his best hair flip for you!

Pancake

Pancake is the baby of the herd, and he’s still finding his footing in the big world of Highland cows. A little shy but endlessly sweet, he prefers to hang back and observe, letting Oatmeal, Poptart, and Bagel take the lead. He looks up to his herd mates for guidance, learning the ropes of cow life one step at a time. While he may be timid, there’s one surefire way to win him over—tasty alfalfa treats! With a little patience (and a handful of snacks), Pancake will warm up and come say hello. Gentle and thoughtful, he’s the soft heart of the herd, and we can’t wait to watch him grow into his own.

Butter

Butter has officially traded in his “new guy” status for something far more fitting: Camp Winnie’s resident escape artist. At this point, if there’s a gap, a loose wire, or even a possibility of greener grass somewhere… Butter will find it. We’ve woken up more than once to texts from neighbors about unexpected cow sightings (always a fun way to start the day), and yes—he’s even been discovered casually lounging by our mailbox like it’s the most normal thing in the world. We can only imagine what passing cars must think.

Despite his adventurous spirit, Butter is truly just a giant, joyful goofball. Think oversized dog energy—he loves to run, kick his legs, and bound across the pasture with zero awareness of his size. It might look dramatic, but it’s all pure excitement and curiosity. He’s incredibly sweet, loves a good scratch, and will happily accept hand-delivered grass from the “other side of the fence” (which, in his mind, is always better—and honestly, probably the root of all his escape attempts).

Butter keeps us on our toes, no doubt about it, but we wouldn’t have him any other way. As we continue upgrading fencing around Camp Winnie (largely inspired by him), we’re hopeful his roaming days will become a little less frequent. Until then, if you hear about a cow exploring the neighborhood… it’s probably Butter, just out on another adventure.
